BAM returns to Abu Dhabi for Al Ain Stadium Mixed Use Dev
25th February 2015
Following the successful completion of the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, BAM Contractors and its sister company BAM International are now making good progress with the second phase for the Al Ain Stadium Mixed Use Development Project – Phase 2.1 for client AAFAQ Holding. This development includes housing (550 apartments in six five-storey buildings), a commercial building, a multi-storey car park, a food and beverage souk, and a 172 rooms and suites’ hotel with its own car park (to be managed by Aloft hotels part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts).
The project also comprises associated infrastructure such as roads, underground services and the high-quality public area. In total, the phase two works represent approximately 200,000 square metres of built-up area, all of which must achieve an Estidama (Sustainability) 2 Pearl rating.
There is a challenge on the project which is the logistics of working inside a live existing road network, especially busy on all matches and events taking place in Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium. Designated construction traffic routes and segregated footpaths for pedestrian access have been constructed. On match days a separate logistics plan for the works has to be implemented to cater for large volumes of supporters. This includes designated parking areas, public traffic routes and allocated pedestrian walkways to and from stadium.
BAM is targeting to complete this project in last quarter of 2016. This will involve working 24/7 with over 2,500 BAM operatives, sub-contractors and a dedicated, motivated site management team. The Engineer is EC Harris.
