Gas Pipeline to the West - Section 2 Roscommon to Galway
The contract comprises the installation of 96.6km of 762mm diameter steel pipe from a location south east of Athlone, crossing the River Shannon, passing to the north of Ballinasloe, through Craughwell and to the west of Gort and then for 10 km south towards Ennis.
The pipe was laid over a seven month period from February to September 2002 with a further 12 months to complete the reinstatement of waveleave.
The pipeline was constructed using a "spread" technique, which comprised of Fencing of the Working Width, Topsoil Stripping, Pipe Preparation, Trenching and Backfilling, Road and River Crossings,Drainage and Reinstatement, Pipeline Safety and continued liaison with Landowners.
